What To Do Once Your Kids Move Out

Fall Into a Better You: Why Now Is the Perfect Time to Build a Strong Morning Routine

There’s something magical about fall. It’s my absolute most favorite time of the year. The air turns crisp, the leaves turn color, the sunrise (and sunsets) are perfect, and life seems to shift into a quieter, more intentional rhythm. As a teacher, I feel it every year. After the endless, hot summer, the structure of fall feels like a deep breath of fresh air for my soul.

And that’s exactly why this season is the perfect time to create (or refine) a strong morning routine whether you work outside the home, work from home, or aren’t working in the traditional
sense right now.

Why Fall Is the Best Season for Morning Routines

Natural Reset: Just like the seasons change, our bodies and minds crave change, too.
The back-to-school energy in the air inspires structure and focus.
Cozy Vibes: Darker mornings make it tempting to stay in bed, but they’re also the
perfect backdrop for structured, intentional rituals—think coffee, candles, and a journal. Or even a personal development podcast and a walk.
Holiday Head Start: By the time November rolls around, schedules get messy. Starting your routine now helps it stick when things get busy.

Building a Routine That Works for You

The “perfect” morning routine doesn’t have to mean a 5:00 a.m. wake-up call or a laundry list of habits. The best routines are the ones you actually enjoy and can sustain. It will depend on your
schedule and your goals. Personally, I leave the house every work day at 6 am. So my morning routine begins at 4 am. I listen to a podcast, walk for 30 minutes on my treadmill, journal, and
pray. It sets my mood for the day and helps me get in the right mindset. Personally, I feel it makes all the difference in the world. Gone are the days when I hit snooze, wake up stressed,
and rush out the door. A strong morning routine is the best way to start any day.

Here’s a framework you can tweak to your lifestyle:

1. Start the Night Before
Lay out your clothes, prep your lunch, or tidy the kitchen. A smooth morning starts with an intentional evening.
2. Wake Up With Purpose
Whether it’s at 5:30 a.m. before a commute or 8:00 a.m. at home, set a wake-up time that supports your goals and stick with it.
3. Hydrate First
Before the coffee (I know, I know), drink a glass of water. It wakes up your body from the inside out.
4. Move Your Body
It doesn’t have to be a full workout. You can stretch, walk, do yoga, or dance in your kitchen. Get the blood flowing.
5. Feed Your Mind
Read a few pages, write in a journal, or listen to a podcast that inspires you.
6. Eat a Nourishing Breakfast
Fuel yourself with something that gives steady energy for the day ahead.                                                                                                                     7. Set Your Daily Intention
Ask yourself: What’s the one thing I want to feel or accomplish today? Carry that thought with you.

If You Work Outside the Home (Like Me)

My mornings as a teacher are busy. I have lesson plans to write, assignments to grade, and students to greet. I need energy. A good routine is crucial. It helps me feel centered and prepared so I’m not running into the classroom on fumes.

If You Work From Home or Don’t Work Right Now

It’s still important to have a routine. It keeps your days from blurring together and gives you a sense of purpose and momentum. Even 20 intentional minutes in the morning can change the
tone of your entire day.

This fall, don’t just let the season change, let yourself change with it. The mornings you
create now can carry you through autumn, as well as all year long. Start small, stay consistent,
and make it something you look forward to.

Here’s to waking up early, watching the sun rise, and a strong morning routine that sets you up for success.
